How changing my thoughts led me to quit my job and live my dream life
Hi Friend!
I'm Elyse. I'm a former CFO turned mindset coach who loves helping women lean into their own power to create success and build the life they dream of.

But I wasn't always here!

Way back when, I was just a kid working my first job in the fitness industry, beginning college as a psychology major, and trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. At the time, I just knew I wanted to learn a bit about how humans operate and was enjoying the knowledge I was gaining between the job and the classes.
And then on what seemed like an ordinary workday, I arrived for my usual duties and got right to it. I had no idea that afternoon, my boss would be pulling me aside to ask if I'd take over the business' entire accounting function. Apparently, it was a secret to no one except my boss that I did not know anything about accounting, much less how to run the fiscal side of a business multi-million dollar business. Alas, always a lover of learning, and excited by the hefty raise, at 19 years old and with half a semester of college under my belt, I jumped at the opportunity. Why this person felt I was the right choice to manage finances for a $4M business with zero experience, I'll never know. But I do know that decision completely changed the trajectory of my life's path as I knew it.

I switched majors from psyche to business and found a mentor or two in the biz, all in an effort to learn the ropes. It turned out that not only did I enjoy the work, I was really freaking good at it! The opportunity led to nearly two decades of overseeing the finance, HR, and risk management for local businesses and nonprofits, eventually climbing the ladder all the way to CFO.

As much as I can say I didn't expect to see myself as a finance person, apparently many other people didn't either. It seemed every time I introduced myself in a professional setting someone would always say, "you really don't strike me as a finance person!" It was noted in comparison to my age, my demeanor, my extrovert tendencies, and a supposedly overall different way I carried myself that went against the expectations of others.
After a while, I began to discount my own abilities as a result. It didn't matter that I was producing results, growing businesses, and keeping impeccably clean financials. I didn't strike people as a finance person, so I assumed I wasn't. For years I could never shake the feeling that I was going to be found out at any moment - that someone smarter, better, and more experienced would enter the room and let everyone know I was a fraud who had no business being in the roles I held.

I battled anxiety, sleepless nights, and worrying over whether the work I did was good enough, if I was going to let my coworkers or our customers down, how everyone would think I was a fake and a failure. I'd burn the candle at both ends just trying to get everything right, often ignoring my intuition - not believing I could trust it.

Nearly two decades into my career, I began to do some soul-searching. I realized that the problem wasn't my capabilities - I was capable AF. My problem was that the mindset I'd been carrying for so many years was not serving me.

If anything, it made me sick.
It made me tired.
It made me sad.

In truth, the expectations that I told myself everyone had for me were actually crafted in my own brain and I was fighting a battle I could not win.
I refused to stay in that rut.

I took inventory of everything that I knew, the things that I enjoyed, and how I could use them as building blocks to create a life that lit me up instead of draining me: Courses I'd taken on people strategy for business. A coaching certification I'd gotten on a whim because it fascinated me, but I'd been too caught up in "doing everything right" to explore it to the fullest. The times I'd worked with my colleagues on aligning their job descriptions and career goals with their greatest strengths to set them up for success.

I'd already laid the groundwork to live my dream and I didn't even realize it! Talk about having my own mind blown.

With that, I decided to take the leap from managing someone else's finances to becoming the person who helps others master their mindset and crush their life goals! While the journey has been challenging, it has also been exciting, and I am so grateful for all of the experience I gained along the way.

And now, I want to share my strategies, tips, and keys to success with you!
